| PATTERN: Gold-coated threads form hexagons (Kikko) or tortoise shells, a favorite of royals. Bright phoenixes (Hou-ou) and kiri (Paulownia) flowers are woven into the Kikko, against a black background. Each kiku is outlined in vivid red, highlighting how the hexagons which represent tortoise's shells fit against each other. Branches are textural on a very soft silk background. |
